The Death Cure by James Dashner; A Review
I was so excited when I read The Maze Runner, the first book in the Trilogy, and thought to myself, "I'm going to read the rest of these one day." When I bought The Maze Runner, its sequel, The Scorch Trials, was already out. I read through Maze Runner in about two weeks, but waited a while to read the second, not knowing if it would live up to my expectations or not. I didn't want to get my hopes up, but the longer I waited, the more I thought about it. So, I went up to Barnes and Noble and bought a copy and immediately began to read it right there. It only took me three days, and I had to admit to myself, the second one was definitely better than the first. When I heard that the third, The Death Cure, was being released, I waited as patiently as a young child on Christmas morning for their parents to get up.
The day it came out I made another Barnes and Noble run, picking up The Eleventh Plague while I was there (I'll probably post a review for that one, too, but not until I read it again.) Since I was reading Dust & Decay by Jonathan Mayberry at the time, I decided to wait to read Death Cure.
I finished Death Cure the other day, and I must say this: severe disappointment. That's what I felt as soon as I was done reading the story. The other two were soooo good, but this one sucked. Not much happened throughout the plot, and everything in it could have been squeezed into the second book at the end. It kind of reminded me of the first half of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: not much in the beginning, and one thing after another happens in the last quarter of the book.
This one definitely could have been better. I feel like my time was wasted in reading it.
